4 Great Spots in Ottawa to Social Distance
It’s no surprise that COVID-19 has shifted the way we live our lives. Whether your job, living arrangements or daily routines, everyone has been impacted by the pandemic in one way or another and things have been feeling anything but normal. However, with the restrictions slowly being lifted, most of us are looking forward to getting out of the house and enjoying all that the summer has to offer. At the same time, many are still hesitant about leaving their homes and want to keep both their safety and the safety of others in check. For this very reason, we’ve highlighted 4 places in Ottawa where you can practice proper social distancing while still being able to spend quality time with family and friends.
Ottawa Trails
Ottawa is well known for the paths that run along the Rideau Canal but did you know that there are over 800 kilometres of trails that weave through Ottawa’s downtown core and outskirts? Going for a hike, bike, walk or run through these trails is a great option – you can maintain your distance while staying active and soaking up Ottawa’s beautiful scenery and hot summer weather.
Parliament Hill
Another great outdoor spot is Parliament Hill. Pack a blanket, snacks, water, and don’t forget your sunscreen! This large open area is a great spot to hang out for the day, and you should have no trouble spending quality time here with your friends from a distance. Known for its beautiful flowers, greenery and great views, get your dose of fresh air and socialize in one of Ottawa’s most popular outdoor spots.
Mooney’s Bay Park
Another great outdoor area is Mooney’s Bay Park. This park is well equipped for social distancing and staying safe. Their washrooms are sanitized frequently, there are painted circles on the grass to ensure you are keeping your distance, and best of all, the beach is steps away! There is truly no better place to spend those hot and sunny summer days in Ottawa. Pack your bag and make it a day trip!
Eagles Nest Lookout
If you’re looking to get away from the city for the day, we recommend taking a trip to Calabogie Peaks. Just an hour outside of Ottawa, you can get your steps in on your way up to the Eagles Nest Lookout. This hikes typically takes around 2-3 hours and we promise that the view will be well worth it!
